Local singer, actor, MC and business man Mario Lategan was born and bred in the Free State.
He matriculated at Jim Fouché High School where he made his theatrical debut in Freule Marike. He has since been involved in a broad spectrum of professional work including Business management, Radio and MC work. Mario has performed in numerous musicals like My Fair Lady, The diary of Anne Frank, Scrooge, The Cage birds, The Boyfriend, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast and The Merry Mikado. Pantomimes such as A-ladin- China, Cinders finds a Glee Fella, Hansel hund Gretle and Snow White and the seven Tsotsi’s to name but a few. Mario has also done numerous independent productions such as A Tribute to Gé Korsten, Musicals from Broadway to West End and Mario in a Dean Martin Cabaret.
He recently appeared as a soloist in the Bloemfontein City Orchestra’s production of The armed man and in Richard Cock’s Songs of Praise. He has also performed as a soloist with the Free State Youth Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Fokkens, in addition to solo performances with choirs in Budapest, Venice and Ljubljana.
In 2018 he sang for six months in Mallorca, Spain where he was part of “Il Quattro” in tribute to “Il Divo”. The group did over a hundred and fifty shows all over the island within this period.
Mario is the annual MC for “Carols with the stars” that has an audience between two and three thousand people every year. He has shared the stage with Caroline-Grace, Heinz Winkler, Coenie de Villiers, Joshua na die reën and Jannie & Corlea to name but a few.
Mario is part of the “Arco Singers” with Cezanne Yzelle and Arend Brink Jnr. They are currently busy with performances of the “Bling & Blacktie Ball” all over the country. Mario is also the MC for the events. “Arco” consists of a six piece band under the guidance of Debbie Brink.
